The textile industry is a diverse, heterogeneous sector, comprising the complete chain of production, from the transformation of the fibers to the final product as it is purchased by the consumer; including clothing, home and industrial textiles.

Traditionally, textile production happened mostly in Europe and North America, but the situation has changed in the last years: most textiles are currently produced in Asia, especially in China and India. The trend of producing apparel only in Asia is reverting to producing in Europe.
